Montbenon and its esplanade
Montbenon is a park for pleasure, a haven of greenery and relaxation in the centre of town, appreciated by the locals and tourists alike. Merging charm with decor, it offers a majestic panorama, artistic creativity, mutual conviviality, and the interesting building of the local court of Justcee.
The esplanade is in turn a drill ground for the town's militia, and a parade ground for reviewing troops. There is an incomparable view of the lake and the Savoy mountains.
It is also used for children's festivities.
In the past Montbenon was just outside the city gates. In the 19th century it became a park with shaded lanes, which saw several new buildings, some of which have now become emblems of the city.
One will see the musical diversity, a place of festivities, the Casino, which has numerous film projections and lectures, and a notable mixture of architectural styles and sculptures. All this reminds us that Lausanne has always been at the centre of Europe.
